The Oracle's Queen - Lynn Flewelling

Tobin has shed his disguise and now stands as Princess Tamir, heir to the throne if she can manage to seize it. Tamir's sudden change in body is just as disconcerting for her as it is for her followers, however. She not only must contend with the enemies outside, but with the shaken confidence of her comrades, as well as her own feelings. If she can manage to gather her allies, she may be able to take the throne, but not without sacrifice.

I have enjoyed every book in this series, but have had to take breaks between them due to the way they are written, moving slowly through the timeline. Each of the characters has real personality, the kind where you can imagine them being real people. The magic is dark and fascinating and the world is detailed and well-developed. Real loss occurs throughout the series that sometimes left me stunned. I highly recommend this series.

Books in the Series:
The Bone Doll's Twin
Hidden Warrior
